On December 19, 2025, the RUDN University will host the annual meeting of the International Expert Council for Arctic Cooperation (IECCA), which will bring together leading Russian and foreign experts, including representatives from China, India, Brazil, Turkey, Norway, Denmark, Australia and other countries. The topic of the meeting is "The New geopolitics of the Arctic." The event is aimed at exchanging views and presenting scientific reports highlighting the changes in the Arctic region in the fields of economics, defense, social policy and ecology.
The Arctic is becoming a key arena of international attention both because of the growing climate change and the development of natural resources, as well as the strategic importance of the region for global security and the economy. The new geopolitical situation requires in-depth analysis and coordination of efforts between States and the expert community for sustainable development and conflict prevention.
Purpose of the eventTo provide a platform for constructive dialogue between Russian and international experts on economic, security, environmental and social issues in the Arctic.
To discuss challenges and opportunities related to changes in the region, including issues of international cooperation and defense policy.
To formulate recommendations for government agencies and international organizations on the adaptation of the Arctic development strategy until 2035.
Main results- Development of coordinated approaches to ensuring the security and sustainable development of the Arctic region.
- Strengthening international cooperation and exchange of scientific information between the participating countries.
- Preparation of expert opinions and recommendations on topical issues of Arctic geopolitics for legislative and executive authorities.

The conference is organized by the Center for Strategic Research of the Faculty of Economics of RUDN University, the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the Center for Strategic Estimations and Forecasts.
