The Annual Meeting of the International Expert Council on Cooperation in the Arctic (IECCA) on the topic "Arctic Transport Routes: Present and Future" will be held on October 16, 2026 at the RUDN University.

Nowadays, the Arctic is in the center of international attention not only because of the increasingly noticeable climate changes and the development of natural resources, but also due to the growing role of Arctic transport routes in global logistics. The Northern Sea Route opens up new opportunities for shipping, optimizing cargo delivery times, and creating alternative trade routes between Europe and Asia.

Purpose of the event
  • To provide a platform for constructive dialogue between Russian and international experts on the development of Arctic transport routes, including economic, legal, infrastructural, environmental and security aspects.
  • To discuss key challenges and prospects for the development of logistics corridors in the Arctic, including issues of international cooperation, regulation of shipping and ensuring navigation safety.
  • To formulate practical recommendations for government agencies and international organizations on the development of transport infrastructure and adaptation of Arctic development strategies until 2035.

Main results
  • Development of coordinated approaches to the development and safe operation of Arctic transport routes.
  • Strengthening international cooperation and exchange of scientific information between the participating countries.
  • Preparation of expert recommendations on infrastructure development, legal regulation and environmental protection in the context of increasing transport activity.
  • Raising awareness about the impact of transport projects on the Arctic ecosystem and the living conditions of the region's indigenous peoples.

The conference is organized by the Center for Strategic Research of the Faculty of Economics of RUDN University, the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the Center for Strategic Estimations and Forecasts.
